Spotlight On....Universalis: Online Encyclopedias for Elementary and High School Students

Universalis Senior and Universalis Junior are French encyclopedias that provide advertisement-free, high-quality information.

These encyclopedias can be accessed by students and staff on the Provincially Licensed Resources page. Using their school network credentials, Saskatchewan students can access these resources anywhere and anytime.

Key Facts: Universalis Junior

  • Grade/Age level: Grades 3 to 8 (immersion students); Grades 9 to 12 (core French students)
  • Content type: 4,000 encyclopedia articles, vocabulary tools, videos, photographs, maps
  • English/French: French resource with limited English content
  • Special features: text-to-speech, ready-made citations, increase/decrease the font size, change the font to Open-Dyslexic
  • Video: Universalis Junior Overview

Key Facts: Universalis Senior

  • Grade/Age level: Grades 9 to 12 (immersion students)
  • Content type: 38,000 encyclopedia articles, multimedia elements, world atlas, science center explaining 11 key scientific concepts.
  • English/French: French resource
  • Special features: text-to-speech, ready-made citations, increase/decrease the font size, change the font to Open-Dyslexic
  • Video: Universalis Senior Overview
