These subject headings were developed after a series of engagement sessions held with Indigenous Peoples from across Saskatchewan, and focus on groups, languages and events that are specific to Saskatchewan or of broad significance. As such, not every subject heading in Library of Congress that relates to Indigenous Peoples is covered here, nor is every potential permutation of a subject heading listed.
Recommendations related to cultural groups and languages can be applied to more general headings as required. Headings related to Indigenous groups from elsewhere in Canada are also not included.
Multitype Library Board members and partner organizations reside on Treaty 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 & 10 territories. These are the ancestral lands of the nêhiyawak (Cree), Anihšināpēk (Saulteaux), Dakota, Lakota, Nakoda and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation. We give thanks to the original caretakers of this land and acknowledge the harms and injustices of the past and present. The Board is dedicated to working together in a spirit of reconciliation. We are all treaty people.
