Authorized Use of Licensed Materials - Britannica Online
To the extent allowed under the Canadian Copyright Act, EB hereby grants a license to authorized users who require the product:
EB hereby grants a license to any library requiring the product for an interlibrary loan, to make one paper copy of isolated articles from its database for use in interlibrary loan to the extent allowed under the Canadian Copyright Act.
EB hereby grants a license to authorized users for access and electronic transmission of Alternate Formats of all or any part of published works included within the database. Alternate Formats means a large print, Braille, audio or electronic-text copy created or electronically transmitted from published works within the database for persons who by reason of sensory, physical or neural handicap cannot effectively use print materials and persons involved in the educational use of such Alternate Format copies.
Downloading Materials
In the case of School, University and Library Subscribers, Authorized Users may print, e-mail or download content and Materials from the Services only for personal, non-commercial use in connection with the preparation of papers, reports, presentations or scholarly uses. Authorized Users of Business and Agency Subscribers may use the Services only while present within the Subscriber’s facilities for internal, non-commercial purposes. In all cases, you must keep intact all copyright and other proprietary notices contained in such content or Materials. Nothing in this Usage Agreement is intended to restrict your “fair use” of the content and Materials in accordance with applicable law.
Authorized Use of Licensed Materials - Science Online
Infobase hereby grants to Authorized Users a subscription to access and read the product, and a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to download a reasonable portion of the product in printed or electronic format for internal or personal use.
Some content included in the products have terms of use applicable solely to such content. Content-specific terms are clearly displayed with the associated content or embedded in the systems and technologies incorporated into the Service. Such supplemental terms shall not materially alter use of the product.
Access and Use
Access and Use the Licensed Materials from the premises of the Participating Member Institution, or remotely via secure authentication, in order to search, retrieve, display and view the Licensed Materials.
Electronically Save
Electronically save parts of the Licensed Materials.
Print
Print out single copies of parts of the Licensed Material.
Persistent Links
Create persistent links to the Licensed Materials for access by Authorized Users for Permitted Uses under this Agreement, from within secure authentication environments standard for such links whenever feasible.
Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan by paper or electronic means, a single copy of an individual document within the guidelines of traditional interlibrary loan practices and applicable copyright laws.
Scholarly Sharing
Participating Member Institutions and Authorized Users may transmit to a third- party colleague in hard copy or electronically, reasonable amounts of the Licensed Materials for personal use or scholarly, educational, or scientific research or professional use but in no case for Commercial Use.
Academic Research
Participating Member Institutions and Authorized Users may incorporate parts of the Licensed Materials in printed or electronic form in assignments and portfolios, theses and in dissertations (“the Academic Works”), and to make reproductions of the Academic Works for personal use and library deposit. Reproductions of the Academic Works may be provided to sponsors of those Academic Works. Authorized Users shall specify the title and copyright owner of the Licensed Material used in the Academic Works.
Accessibility
Alter or modify the Licensed Materials as necessary to provide an equivalent level of service to Authorized Users with appropriately documented print or other disabilities.
Course Packs / Electronic Reserve / Virtual Learning
Participating Member Institutions and Authorized Users may incorporate parts of the Licensed Material in course packs, study packs, resource lists and in any other material (including but not limited to multi-media works) to be used in the course of instruction and/or in virtual and managed environments (including but not limited to virtual learning environments, managed learning environments, virtual research environments and library environments) hosted on a Secure Network (only accessible to Authorized Users by Secure Authentication). Each item shall carry appropriate acknowledgement of the source, listing title and copyright owner. Course packs in other formats, such as Braille, may also be offered to Authorized Users.
Classroom Handouts
Distribute single copies of individual items of the Licensed Materials in print or electronic form to Authorized Users in a class at a Participating Member Institution for teaching purposes.
Discovery Services
Connect the Licensed Material to the Participating Member Institution’s Discovery Services, when technically able to do so, in order to facilitate optimal discovery of the content for the benefit of Authorized Users.
Training and Marketing Materials
Participating Member Institutions and Authorized Users may display, download or print the Licensed Materials for the purpose of internal marketing or testing or for training Authorized Users.
Branding
Participating Member Institutions may request that Licensed Materials be branded with the name of the institution on the homepage of the product, or otherwise as agreed, in order to publicize the acquisition to Authorized Users.
MARC Records
MARC records may be placed in Participating Member Institutions’ online public access catalog (OPAC) or shared online catalog (e.g., WorldCat) unless otherwise specified with respect to a particular product.
Library Catalog Enrichment Service
For library catalog enrichment services (e.g., Syndetics), Participating Member Institutions may use the enrichment elements for the sole purpose of augmenting Participating Member Institutions’ own library OPAC or website.
Cost Recovery
Participating Member Institutions may charge a reasonable fee to cover the costs of copying or printing portions of the licensed materials for Authorized Users.
Analytics
Participating Member Institutions and Authorized Users may create, download, store and retain any analytics or lists delivered by the products. Infobase may use library holdings and other information in the products for comparison and metrics purposes and in order to better understand the customers’ needs.
Prohibited Uses of Licensed Materials - Britannica Online
This license does not extend to downloading in electronic or print form, all or parts of the product in a systematic or regular manner so as to create a collection of materials comprising all or part of the product.
Prohibited Uses of Licensed Materials - Science Online
Infobase does not convey to the Provincial Library or Authorized Users any other intellectual property rights to the product than the subscription and licenses specifically conveyed in this agreement and in particular does not transfer or assign any ownership of copyright by this agreement, which ownership shall remain in Infobase or the original copyright owner.
